District Governor, Joe Otin recently visited Rotary Club of Hurlingham’s initiative at Shangilia Children’s Home, Kangemi, a stone’s throw away from Westlands.
During the visit, he interacted with children from the home, where the Club made a book donation. He interacted with the children at the basketball court where he showed them a few tricks and watched them display their artistic talents on stage.
He noted that Shangilia Children’s Home has done very well by integrating art and music into its activities, especially given that it’s an institution which relies on well-wishers. The DG was pleased to note, that there were two children from the institution, who had gone on to become doctors among other esteemed professionals, and he challenged the children to emulate them and indeed, to pursue their dreams through hard work.
During the afternoon tour, President Frank Masinde welcomed the District Governor and thanked him for taking time off to see the Club’s activities. “Rotary Club of Hurlingham has partnered with the children’s home for a couple of years and we are really pleased to play our part as Rotary.”
The DG then proceeded to Jacaranda Hotel where he met the Board, attended Club Assembly and was then hosted to a dinner in his honour, by the Club.
Whilst addressing members he said, “I’m really proud of how far Rotary Club of Hurlingham has come and to see that it is now a strong club with a strong board, headed by President Frank. I wish to thank this Club for giving us members to work directly with the District; especially the leadership of next year’s Sunshine Rally as well s the District Conference 2020.”
