Speaking to you through our Hurlingham Mambo every quarter this Rotary year has brought so much joy to me. I have especially enjoyed sharing the incredible stories of the wonderful projects and events during the Imagine Rotary Year and as the year comes to an end, I am super happy and so looking forward to handing over the relay stick to our beautiful PE Mej.

It has been an incredible year whose memory will forever remain in my heart. A great experience I must say, very enjoyable but of course I will be lying if I say it was not bumpy at times, but all in all, I am super proud of the experience gained.

We spent an awesome weekend on the 29th of April at Elementaita where our incoming President Mejumaa unveiled her board. The weekend was lit. We couldn’t leave Elementaita without going to the lake to see God’s beautiful creatures – flamingos.

On 10th May, we had a very successful/well attended Koroga. The happy club is growing, two more members (Rotarians Peace & Victoria) were inducted to the RC Hurlingham family by the District Membership Liaison Chair PP Betty Wariari bringing our Membership to 46, from 37 members when the year started. We had a fun filled evening at the Goan Gymkhana.

On 12th May, I welcomed the visiting Rotarian PDG Dr. Earle Lyndon and his wife Heather for a week dream tour of Kenya. We had a jam-packed itinerary for their brief stay in Nairobi which started with a visit to the Giraffe Centre, Stedmak Recreational Center and later dinner at Rtn. Peace’s house in Westlands.

The following day, the 14th, we took a drive to Maasai land, which was a great experience to learn the Maasai culture and even appreciate how they lived in the Manyatta’s. On 15th, we took a drive out of town to view the escarpment and later went to lake Elementaita to see the flamingoes and on their last day, i.e. 16th, we took them shopping for souvenirs and later had a farewell lunch with some Rotarians. They had met with DGE Leonard for breakfast at their hotel, Double Tree by Hilton on their last day before going for shopping.

On 17th, we had a fun filled evening with Rotaract Clubs of Hurlingham, Technical University of Kenya (TUK) and University of Nairobi, Afya during a QuizNite which was organized by TzenQz courtesy of Rotaract Hannington Mbaabu of the Rotaract Club of Nairobi East. And on 24th May, we had a very successful Mega joint fellowship with 12 other clubs in District 9212 where the Guest Speaker was Daven Michaels – New York bestselling author and Founder, 123Employee & CEO of Michael Press.

I must say, it’s never a dull Wednesday with RC Hurlingham because every week, we ensured to keep the club engaged with interesting guest speakers – which has been a tradition of RCH and I believe PE Mej will continue with the same trend.

All of us have imagined Rotary this year. This means looking past what we are today and reaching for what we could be tomorrow. We imagine a Rotary that will continue to tell our stories in impactful ways, work to reduce our carbon footprint, and focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts that lift every voice in our organization and beyond. Wishing PE Mej all the best – you can be assured of my 100% support in your year. God bless you all!
